New distribution centre with tailor-made storage system

Modern entire intralogistics solution at GLX Global Logistic Service eliminates bottlenecks and significantly increases storage capacity.

Jungheinrich aligned the intralogistics of the new GLX Global Logistic Service GmbH distribution centre in Freienbrink near Berlin precisely to the customer's specific requirements.

The GLX Group is a successfully growing company in the field of Supply Chain Management with more than six locations. Due to the strong growth, the GLX warehouses have reached their capacity limits and a new logistics centre should eliminate bottlenecks.

Changed market conditions require more storage capacity

Jungheinrich acted as a full-service provider, contact person and project manager for the new GLX Group distribution centre. Everything from a single source. Together with the customer an entire intralogistics solution was developed.

The objective was a substantial increase in storage capacity and efficiency.

Roland Becker
Managing Director

„Warehouse layout and material flow are perfectly adapted to our requirements. We benefit from a tailor-made storage system including an order-picking system.“

Jointly developed solution

The new and 15,000 square meter large distribution centre is located southeast of Berlin, from where GLX is now operating the European HUB for its clients’ spare parts logistics and after sales services.

In the modular racking system, small casks and containers are stored and retrieved in four aisles with about 10,500 storage spaces, being operated by two inductively guided Jungheinrich vertical order pickers of the type EKS 210.

A wide-aisle heavy-load pallet racking system also provides approximately 15,000 storage spaces operated by reach trucks. In total, 20 Jungheinrich trucks are used for transporting within the warehouse, which is 140 metres long and 110 metres wide.

Additionally, the modular racking system offers a special solution for fire protection to prevent the use of a rack sprinkler system.

More efficient processes and shorter picking times

The increase in the volume of goods and overall capacity as well as the more efficient processes and shorter picking times ensure that the GLX Group is perfectly positioned for future growth.

The client is also already considering connecting directly to the SAP system using Jungheinrich warehouseNavigation.

Conclusion: A solution perfectly tailored to the needs of the client, which, in addition, is oriented towards the future.
